Butterfly Surprise

I was taking a macro shot of this flower bud on a tree in my yard when just as I was about to click the shutter a butterfly appeared.  Magical nature.  Actually I think it is a lowly but beautiful moth!
Here is a cropped photo--eliminating the "spots" at the top of the photo.  Which do you prefer?

  1. I like the empty black space in the before picture. I know if general it is a good strategy to crop out empty space to emphasize the main subject. But there is something about the original empty space that makes the image more open to imagining the environment.

I also enjoyed your other montage pictures - I am a big fan of the cropped flower - the opposite of what I said above. The cropping in that image added mystery!

I guess one size does not fit all when it comes to photography!

  2. I prefer the uncropped photo, Pat. I think Michelle explained my reasoning quite nicely. Your work is beautiful. Your photography captures images that attenuate my awareness of our natural environment. Taking time to enjoy them is a visual meditation for me.
I look forward to seeing what you continue to create.
